When is the last time you thought to yourself I wish I had an extra $1500 this month? Would you believe me if I told you that I did this by simply adding 1 new service to my salon menu?

I made an extra $1500 in one month by adding a new service to my Salon Studio Menu, I’m laying how I did it all out for you in this one!

A while back I was commuting an hour and a half into the city to get to work. I know it sounds like a lot but I really didn’t mind it because I truly love driving. In fact, now that I don’t drive very often I find myself looking for reasons to go for a drive which is awesome because it means I get out and live life on the weekends! Shout out to my fellow weekend warriors!!

Honestly, though, driving is therapeutic to me and any hairdresser especially a salon studio owner can attest to needing a little solo self-love therapy time every once in a while. Some shop. Some run. I drive. See the picture below I took from my driver’s seat last week and try to judge me for loving to drive where I live!

Anyways, I had a great opportunity to move significantly closer to work but the price tag was steep on top of the moving expenses I knew would add up during the move. By moving expenses I mostly mean, the things I would buy to pretty up the place and make it feel like my new home! We know it will happen, might as well slightly plan for it!

I was brainstorming ways that I could not just offer a discount to clients I already had and would probably be coming in during the month anyways but actually, up-service them and add to the ticket I was already going to get.

I started by looking at my clients that were on my books for the month and I asked myself what was one thing at least a few of them needed. What is happening around me that could be a reason for someone needing an extra service.

I looked out my window and it hit me!

This is a time of year that is very foggy where my salon studio is located. We are right on the coast so one complaint I hear from my clients all the time is that they wish their hair would stay the way it looked when they first styled it all day long but the fog would make their hair immediately get frizzy the second they walked outside this time of year!

Before I left my big salon (by big I mean multiple chairs in one main room) and opened my salon studio, I did a formaldehyde-based smoothing treatment that my clients had adored getting done. I decided as a business owner to not offer the service anymore because of the harsh chemicals it had in it, didn’t align with my salon’s mission.

In the years that have passed since my clients have asked me about smoothing services and I have always told them that I am looking for one that fits into what I am looking for in a smoothing system.

I have come across many products that make a lot of claims but fallen short for one reason or another. A few months ago I started hearing the buzz about a new smoothing system called Cezanne. This article is not about Cezanne but if you are looking for something like I just described I was, I would check them out!

I contacted some peers that were offering the serviced and asked them how they felt. Nobody had anything bad to say just nothing but raving reviews about it. I even found out I have a friend that teaches for them. She gave me the info for the rep and I was able to put in a small intro order in.

I figured out a good round number that I needed to comfortably get me through my sudden move. I took this number and divided it by how much I would charge minus a sizable discount making an offer people couldn’t refuse. The number I ended up with was the number of exclusive people I could allow to take advantage of my great limited time offer!

Did you follow me there…Check out the equation below.

See how that works?!

Now maybe this service isn’t something you could add to your menu because you already do it. Think about what you COULD add or even something you could just reintroduce or promote for a quick stream of income!

Adjust the numbers how you need to figure out how many customers you need to make the goal you set for yourself.

Now that you have your numbers figured out, its time to set up your promotion. Figure out how you will get this deal in front of your clients. For me, this was by email!

I had been looking for a smoothing system for some time and a lot of my clients knew that so when I pulled the trigger and was ready to introduce one, I made sure the clients that had expressed interest were on my email list.

I put together an email offering the deal and I said this was available ONLY for the first 5 people who booked their appointments. I swear to you I had all 5 booked within 2 hours of the email going out.

I know this sounds to good to be true but when you say in your email or post that you only have so many spots available it gives your clients a sense of exclusivity! It makes them feel impulsive about wanting to make an appointment. People want to take advantage of deals…trust me, you’ll be surprised at the people who jump to be one of the ones that GET to book this service!

I hope you found this post useful today and have some ideas for promotions you can do to take advantage of the power you have by being your own boss and owning a salon suite!
