Are you busy doing the type of tasks in your salon studio that are going to be moving you in a forward direction or simply wasting time? This is the difference between being busy and being productive!

Most of us salon studio owners have decided to open their business because they had a pretty good portfolio of clients at their previous salon. Let me clarify the business we had at our previous salons were a clientele business.

At our previous salons we were usually kind of rockstars! We had a good clientele and we knew how to run our days inside of a big salon with many movibg parts we were unaware of, which is what gave us the confidence we would be able to run our salon studios. However, most of us have realized that there is A LOT more that goes into running a salon studio then there is just running our clientele!

Now that we have made the leap to work for ourselves and create a brand that we plan to grow so we can continue living life on our own terms for the rest of our lives… it’s time to stop wasting time being BUSY and start doing the things we need to be doing to MAKE our dreams really come to life and last as long as we want them to!

This brings up my first point… DO YOU TRULY KNOW WHAT YOUR DREAMS ARE?

I am talking about your big scary dreams that make you a little uncomfortable even thinking about. Your dreams are exactly where you need to start! Like the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland points out…without knowing where you are going, which way you go doesn’t matter!

I recommend writing this out.

Pick up a cheap journal (My favorite is this one) so you can keep track of your thoughts but remember the best way to figure out what you are really thinking and feeling is by writing without rereading. So, once you’re pen hits the paper and words start coming out let the words flow out without editing. When you give yourself the opportunity to let things flow you will find your truest desires.

Get into really deep details about how you want your life to look. What do you want to be doing? What type of clientele do you wish to have? Do you want to take vacations? Where do you want to go? What kind of car do you drive? What kind of things make you happy?

Your dreams are your goals. Take a good amount of time and figure out what your dreams are so that you can start working backwards to figure out what you need to start doing to be PRODUCTIVE and move toward your ultimate dreams.

Take a long hard look into the mirror and ask yourself if you really believe you can achieve these dreams!

The answer should be YES! If the answer is anything else, you need to stay on this topic for a while until it is!

After you have accepted that your dreams are totally doable because you can have anything you want…ask yourself now, what types of things SHOULD you be doing that you aren’t right now?

What I want each and every single salon studio on the planet to do is get their salons running in a way that feels like you have people working for you. Create systems for your business that can be put on autopilot. Like by having an online booking system you are eliminating 80% of your receptionist tasks.

Creating a system to how you greet your customers and perform your services will help you cut down your time enabling you to fit more clients into a day.

I have been preaching for years that by pre-cutting and folding your foils for a highlight or balayage client will shave 15 minutes off of every application. How many highlights or balayages have you done this year? If you did 100 you could have saved yourself 25 hours of time! I if you charge $50 for your Women’s Haircuts that time could have made you $1250 by the end of the year!!!

Now let’s look at the topic of today’s post again. Are you busy doing the type of tasks that are going to be moving you in a forward direction or simply wasting your time?
